Unit 5-From Nationalism to Sectionalism

Today's Agenda:

• Film quiz on Andrew Jackson
• Finish: Chapter 7 section 3 if you need more time
• Library: research and write the essay on the Presidency of Andrew Jackson
• Question: Was Andrew Jackson a good or bad president? Please do not use the words good or bad in your essays. Try to think of better words!

Requirements: Typed, Times New Roman, 12 point font, double spaced, and five full paragraphs. Each paragraph is given a score from 0-10 based on topic sentences, supporting evidence, sentence structure, and grammar.

Recommended:

1. Create a google doc so that you can share it with me. This eliminates printing issues and late papers.
2. Pick 3 things that Jackson did as president and decide if they were positive or negative.
3. The answer to the question, whatever you decide is your thesis, and should be the last sentence of your intro paragraph.
4. Write strong topic sentences for your 3 body paragraphs that relate back to your thesis. These should be the first sentences of paragraphs 2, 3, and 4.
5. Rewrite your thesis statement. This sentence should be the first line of your conclusion.
6. Always consider tone and word choice-this essay should be formal and academic
7. Always cite your sources using MLA format. 
8. Avoid contractions, personal pronouns, and writing in first person.
